Chelsea and Newcastle Learn Joao Pedro Asking Price as Brighton Prepare for Bidding War

Brighton & Hove Albion have firmly rejected a £50 million bid for star forward Joao Pedro, with Goal.com reporting that Chelsea and Newcastle United have now been informed of the club’s asking price as the race for the Brazilian intensifies.

The Seagulls consider Pedro untouchable unless a significantly higher offer is made, with sources suggesting Brighton are holding out for at least £65 million to even consider negotiations. The 22-year-old enjoyed an impressive debut season at the Amex Stadium, notching 20 goals in all competitions and establishing himself as one of the most exciting young attackers in the Premier League.

Chelsea and Newcastle are both keen to bolster their attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 campaign and see Pedro as a long-term solution. Chelsea are reportedly monitoring several forwards this summer, but Joao Pedro’s age, Premier League experience and versatility have made him a standout target. Newcastle, meanwhile, are seeking to add firepower to support Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson, especially as they prepare for European competition next season.

Brighton, known for their strong negotiating stance, are under no pressure to sell. Pedro is under contract until 2028, and the club see him as a central figure in Roberto De Zerbi’s project. The rejected £50m bid signals that any club interested in his services will have to break the bank to lure him away from the south coast.

As the transfer window heats up, Brighton are bracing themselves for further offers, with both Chelsea and Newcastle expected to return to the table. A bidding war could erupt in the coming weeks, with the Seagulls standing firm on their valuation of one of the Premier League’s brightest young stars.
